Papillion Businesses welcomes Kidz in Motion Dance Company to Papillion, another new Papilion business.

“I started dance at the age of 5 in Lincoln Nebraska. My dance teacher, Ms
Nancy Standley, and I would attend conventions in Las Vegas during the
summer. We had a great time together. Ms Nancy played a huge role in my
life. She treated me like I was part of her family. I got to know her mom
and all her friends. Time has passed and Nancy has since retired. I will
always admire her for the compassion and commitment she gave to all her
dancers!

Along with dance, I was also in gymnastics. I started gymnastics at the
age 5 from Francis Allen at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I competed
in gymnastics from 11 years of age until High School. I was invited to be
on the USA Junior Olympic Team, but chose not to, because I wanted to
compete with my friends and not under the International Gymnastics
Federation. My high school team won 2 state titles. Of course they did, I
was their Team Co-Captain!!!!

I started competing in dance when I attended UNL. I was elected Vice
President of Orchesis Dance Ensemble and won awards for my choreography.
Jerry Bevington, a dance profession at UNL, cringed when I choreographed a
dance piece because he knew that I used a lot of PROPS!!! I graduated with
a minor in dance and a major in Psychology. Those were the best years!!! We
literally stayed at Mable Lee Hall from noon (or when ever our classes were
done), until 2 or 3 in the morning dancing! The pizza delivery guy knew us
by heart.

I also had an opportunity to dance in a piece choreographed by Bill T.
Jones and Arnie Zane Dance Company out of New York. I had a partner, Kent,
who had to lift me above his head and carry me in different positions.
During the auditions, I lied about my weight (what dancer wouldn’t lie
about this) I finally told them my true weight because I thought I would
crush Kent. He did great in lifting me and he never dropped me!!!! Whew!

After college I pursued a career in the health sciences. I lived in
Colorado for several years and then Seattle….That is where I had my son!
Being a mother has definitely changed me. I am more grateful for what I
have and the little things in life I do take time for.

While I was working in Colorado, I decided to go back to school and
further my education. I graduated with a Masters Degree in Molecular
Biology.  I currently work at the University of Nebraska Medical Center as
a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Pulmonary Department.

My training in dance and gymnastics, as well as LOVING children, drove me
to open my dance studio. I started Kidz in Motion Dance Company out of the
gymnasium of Conestoga Elementary School in Murray Nebraska. I then leased
a spot in Bellevue and taught dance for 5 years at that location. I
purchased a property in Papillion and converted it into a BEAUTIFUL dance
studio. One that I truly take ownership of!

I love the fact that dance is incorporating gymnastics more and more into
its curriculum. Gymnastics is definitely a strength of mine and I feel
comfortable teaching Acro to my dancers. Just call us the cirque du soleil
of Papillion. As you can see, I have a sense of humor. I have always felt
that everyone should laugh at least once a day!!!!!
