A New Papillion Business: SPIN! Pizza Interview

SPIN®_LOGO-Cartouche2011

Thank you to Tory Thaemert for helping us with the interview and sharing her love of SPIN!Pizza with us and our readers.

Please tell us the story of how it began. (I love this story.)

Our owners, Gail and Richard Lozoff and Ed Brownell, had a vision to open a
pizza place with hand-spun pizza, salad and wine that had an atmosphere
that brings all types of people together to share a variety of dining
occasions. It wasn’t that there wasn’t enough pizza out there — there just
wasn’t enough GOOD pizza. Pizza like they make in Italy and they wanted to
bring that experience to an American audience in a fast casual environment.
They partnered with James Beard Award winner Michael Smith to create a
unique taste profile for SPIN!’s ingredients and pizza and salad
combinations.

SPIN! opened its first restaurant in Overland Park, KS in 2005. Since, we
have 5 more locations in the Kansas City metro (with 2 more on the way), 3
in Southern California, our Papillion location and plans for 4 restaurants
in Dallas Fort Worth.

What type of pizzas do you offer?

All of our pizzas are homemade and baked in our stone-oven in the
Neapolitan tradition — with thin and bubbly crusts. Our combinations are
creative twists on classic tastes. We serve hand-spun original and wheat
crust and gluten-free crust pizzas with crushed tomato (rossa sauce) or
roasted garlic olive oil glaze (bianca sauce). Our pizzas are topped with
fresh mozzarella, several different hand-grated cheeses and our SPIN! mix
of Italian cheeses and oven-roasted veggies, house-roasted chicken and
meats. We roast our veggies and meats every day in the same oven that bakes
our pizzas.

What do you have besides pizza?

Our homemade soups are made fresh daily — minestrone and tomato basil.

We are known for our salads; in fact some people eat pizza with their salad
instead of salad with their pizza!
Flatbread (rosemary flatbread baked in our oven) with homemade spreads:
white bean hummus, red pepper and goat cheese and lemon ricotta olive oil.

Our menu also features homemade sandwiches on challah bread with homemade
mayo spreads, crisp fresh lettuce and tomato and premium meats and cheeses
and grilled panini on farmhouse bread with melted cheeses, oven-roasted
veggies and meats.

For dessert, we serve gelato that is made for us from only natural
ingredients and flavorings. We don’t use bases as many gelato places do.
Our flavor selection rotates regularly so there’s always a new flavor to
try, like Blueberry Butter Cookie or Tiramisu.

We have a robust wine and beer selection of house wines, bottles from our
SPIN! BIN for $22 each, 8 craft beers on tap and a lineup of craft bottles.
We also have three types of sangria.

What is a difference between your restaurant and other pizza places?

At SPIN!, we make our dough fresh every day and hand-spin our pizza shells
in our open kitchen for guests to watch pizzas being made! We prepare all
of our ingredients in our stone-oven, so they are seasoned and packed with
flavor (herbs, garlic and olive oil) before they even land on a pizza. We
make our own sangria in house. We get rave reviews on our salads, too, that
are made with all homemade dressings and house-baked croutons. Almost
everything on our menu can be made gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian. We
take our guests’ diets very seriously, and are ready to customize anything!

New Papillion Business Interview: Sam’s Club-Jeremy McDowell

samsclubpapillionbusinessesdotcomjeremymcdowell

Thank you to Jeremy McDowell for the interview and photograph for PapillionBusinesses.com!

How did you join Sam’s Club as a team member and leader?
I started my career with Sam’s Club 17 years ago as a truck unloader in receiving.  I worked my way up to an hourly supervisor position on the sales floor within 2 years, then to a management position in my first 3 years.  At our new club all the salaried managers began as hourly associates with the company.

What has been the most rewarding part of working at Sam’s Club?
I really enjoy the community involvement side of what we do at Sam’s Club.  We are constantly looking for new ways to give back through volunteer work, fundraising and community events to bring awareness to different organizations.  I am proud to work for a company that puts so much back into the community.  In fact, we will be giving away $22,000 in grants to area non-profits at an associate event on September 22nd at the Kroc Center.

Why was Papillion chosen for the new location?
The area is growing and the economy is strong.  We chose the location to fill the demand in Sarpy County and to support the communities being underserved by the existing Sam’s Club locations.  The reaction from the community has been very positive and supportive.

What did you like about the site location in Papillion?
It is an area where businesses are being added rapidly all along the 72nd street corridor, so it will be a destination spot for many of our members.  The intersection of 72nd and Cornhusker is an easy location for local residents to relate to, as they know the location well already.

How do you see your business fitting into the economic development of the area?
The economy is growing rapidly in Sarpy County.  Sam’s Club has a good base of members that are business owners and business leaders.  We can help the existing local businesses grow while new businesses establish themselves by utilizing our unique mix of products and pricing.  Our individual members will also appreciate the unique mix of merchandise and benefits we offer with membership.

As the store manager, what is the most exciting part of opening a new location?
One of the most exciting things is being able to instill the Sam’s Club culture in all our new associates coming onboard.

When is your grand opening?
September 25th at 8:30am

When is your ribbon cutting?
September 25th at 8:00am

What do you have planned for them?
We have many product demonstrations, special items and special pricing on some very exciting items.  We will have an Extreme Pumpkin Carver on Saturday the 27th who will be attempting to break several Guinness World Records at our location.

How many employees will have working at this location?
Our goal for grand opening is to have more than 180 associates.

Are you still hiring? If so, what positions and how do people apply?
We are still hiring, and will continue to do so until we reach our goal.  We are looking for additional cashiers, cart attendants, member greeters, meat department and sales floor associates.  Those who want to apply should visit our hiring center website at: https://hiringcenter.walmartstores.com  and reference the Papillion location #6181
